In April of 2016,

In April of 2016, I conducted interviews with ethnic Greek descendants of immigrants from the Ottoman Empire who now reside in Richmond, Virginia. During my time there, I had the honor of meeting Mr. Diamond Erminy. Diamond was an engineer and served as the historian for Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Richmond, Virginia. Diamond and I spoke about his heritage and his connection to the Marmara region of Turkey, specifically the town of Chora (modern Hoşkoy). Diamond spent many years of his life collecting a precious repository of information about Hoşkoy with the help of local community members who were also from the same town and surrounding towns. The result is four cubic feet of documents which include one-of-a-kind maps that link the families of Richmond to their historic homes in Hoşkoy, and the surrounding towns. Diamond meticulously drafted detailed maps which we will bring to life using advanced mapping software. I would like to recognize Mrs. Maria Tarasidis, Petros Tarasidis, and Mr. Theofanos for their help and guidance during this process. hashtagHoskoy hashtagArchGIS hashtagogus0424
