Following the negotiations and contacts held at intergovernmental level between Turkey and the United Kingdom, two signing ceremony were held on May 10 in relation to the Turkish Fighter Development (TF-X) Project.
Through an exchange of letters, the Defence Ministers of both countries established a strategic level partnership concerning their long-term commitments. The first of these ceremonies was named the Exchange of Letters Ceremony between the Governments of Turkey and the United Kingdom for the Turkish Fighter Development Programme. The certificate of this ceremony was signed by Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, Undersecretary for Defence Industries, and Stephen Phipson, Head of the Department for International Trade Defence and Security Organisation (DIT DSO).
The second ceremony was the Memorandum of Agreement Signing Ceremony between TAI and BAE Systems concerning the Turkish Fighter Development Programme. Earlier this year – and following the initial activities conducted under the Turkish Fighter Development Programme – TAI and BAE Systems reached consensus concerning the basic principles of the cooperation agreement the two parties are to eventually sign, later signing a framework contract on January 28, 2017. In the second ceremony held during IDEF, a letter of agreement describing the current situation and position of the involved parties was signed, in order to conclude the ongoing negotiations being conducted in relation to this cooperation agreement, and to commence the necessary approval procedures and processes. The memorandum was signed by Temel Kotil, President and CEO of TAI; Prof. Dr. Mustafa Cavcar, Head of the Turkish Fighter Development Group at TAI; Tom Fillingham, Vice President of BAE Systems; and Michael Hasnip, Head of Commercial at BAE Systems.
The ceremonies were attended by General Abidin Ünal, Commander of the Turkish Air Force, His Excellency Richard Moore, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Turkey, and many other high-ranking guests.
