Turkey invests in defence projects

A meeting of the executive committee of Turkey’s defence procurement agency, chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on 7 August approved projects worth TRY13.5 billion (USD2.55 billion).
These included projects to increase the capabilities of attack helicopters, provide new unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and modernise jamming, radar, and command systems, the Defence Industry Directorate (SSB) – formerly the Turkish Defence Industries Undersecretariat (SSM) – announced in a press release.
No details on the modernisation of the systems were provided, but Ismail Demir, who heads the SSB, on 4 August tweeted information on some of the 48 defence projects that Erdogan had unveiled on 3 August as part of a 100-day action plan.
