BRITAIN must step in to prevent the Middle East descending into a "state of war" in the Middle East over the Iran nuclear deal, a top admiral has warned.

Royal Navy hero Admiral Lord West told Daily Star Online the decision by US President Donald Trump to axe the agreement was “extremely dangerous”.
He said Britain must team up with France and Germany to salvage what they can from the Iran deal to prevent conflict in the region.
The former First Sea Lord compared Trump's move to “stirring up a hornet's nest” and predicted his decision will make “everything worse”.
Admiral West warned the region is now at its most fragile in 15 years – describing the prospect of a nuclear-armed Middle East as “absolutely horrifying”.
Trump shocked the world this week as he axed the deal which saw Tehran promise to give-up nukes in exchange for the lifting of US sanctions.
The US President described the deal as “insane”, but Tehran has already promised to begin “industrial scale” enrichment.
“Having a nuclear Middle East is a horrifying thought, absolutely horrifying.”

Admiral West said the nuclear deal was the only thing which stopped Israel from launching an attack on Iran.
And he said any Iranian nuclear development would be matched by Saudi Arabia.
US forces would then be drawn in to support Israel, and the Iranians would assume America – and possibly even the UK – are involved in the attack.
He added a nuclear armed Iran is “far more dangerous than North Korea”.
Israel is the only officially recognised nuclear power in the region – believed to have a stockpile of around 80 nukes.

Admiral West told Daily Star Online: “If Iran has  nuclear weapons, then the Saudis will want them and can probably get them from Pakistan.
“Having a nuclear Middle East is a horrifying thought, absolutely horrifying.
“I don’t think the Americans or the UK would even want to contemplate that – it is extremely worrying.”
Israel and Iran are currently at each others throats of Syria, with Trump’s decision on the nuclear deal only making things more unstable.
Previously, potential of war between Israel and Iran was described as "biblical" .
Israel and Iran have exchanged fire in Syria – with US officials warning it is most likely place in the world to escalate into war.
Admiral West said: “Israel wants Iran to be trodden down by America and then the garden will be rosy.
“But what its actually going to do is stir up a hornets nest and make everything worse.
“Until you have actually defeated Iran, and that is a major thing, a huge war, you won’t have removed that threat.
“It is a very dangerous thing to want to do.”

Britain must team up with Germany and France to do “everything we can” to salvage the deal, Admiral West said.
He said if Iran is suddenly left without options for trade it will inevitably begin pursuit of nuclear weapons.
Especially given Kim Jong-un’s successful pressuring of the US into talks after establishing nukes, he added.
Admiral West told Daily Star Online: “What Iran has taken away from North Korea is ‘if you don’t have nukes these b******s will have a go at you’.”
