Turkish FM: We’ll take back Greek islands by diplomacy or by our army

Tensions between the two countries, Greece and Turkey, have been going on for years but their cooperation has also been extensive enabling tourism to benefit significantly and reach very high levels lately
“Either we find a solution with diplomacy, we take it to the International Court, or we send an army to take back the Greek islands,” noted Turkey’s Foreign Minister Melvut Cavusoglu, during an address to the Turkish Parliament.
Greek media has reported there was strong confrontation in Turkish parliament between the ruling party (AKP), and the main opposition regarding the issue of certain Greek islands in the Aegean, which Turkey claims as its own.
Referring to the isle of Imia, in the Dodecanese region, Cavusoglu claimed it is a national issue and that AKP is not responsible for what happened in 1996, because they were not in government at the time. The Turkish Minister claims Imia was “occupied” by the Greeks.
“We continue our diplomatic talks with Greece. If we do not agree, Parliament will decide on the alternatives and we will apply them. But this is a national policy. This is not an issue that will be discussed in the corridors. We established a team of military personnel at the Ministry of National Defence. We discussed the problem and the steps we can take. Is it better to reduce tension or increase it?” Cavusoglu wondered.
