SULAIMANI – The People's Defense Forces (HPG) said 13 fighters from its group and 24 Turkish soldiers had been killed during clashes between both sides in the past ten days.
The HPG Press Centre released a statement about the clashes with the HPG fighters in Besta region in Sirnak on Sunday (April 30).
According to the statement, the Turkish army launched an operation against the HPG in Besta region on 19 April.
Up to 13 fighters of the group were killed during clashes with the Turkish army, the HPG’s statement said. 24 soldiers of the Turkish army were also killed the HPG said, although the Turkish military hasn’t released a statement on casualties.
Turkish warplanes and artillery also shelled HPG positions in the area, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) affiliated HPG continued.
The PKK's three-decade armed struggle against the Turkish government flared up again in 2015 after the collapse of a two-year cease-fire and settlement process, plunging Turkey's predominantly Kurdish southeast back into open conflict between Turkish security forces and the PKK.
